Before you begin

Please read following instructions carefully to ensure a safe operation of the sauna

  1. Excessive sweating may cause stains on wood and damage to electrical components. Please place towels on the bench and on the floor heater(if applicable) to absorb sweat when using the sauna.
  2. The indoor sauna is not waterproof, please do not spray water inside or on the exterior of the sauna. If you wish to put indoor sauna outdoor, please refer buying guide for more informaiton.
  3. Please do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleansers inside or on the exterior of the sauna. Only use a damp cloth for cleaning.
  4. If possible, please do not let children operate the sauna without supervision to prevent any danger from happening, such as being burned.
  5. Using chemicals will damage the wood and any natural protection layer inherent in the wood.
  6. Jewellery is not allowed during the sauna.
  7. Persons with health conditions or using medications should consult their physicians before using the sauna to avoid any possibility of inducing diseases and symptoms.

Frequently Asked Use and Maintenance Questions

Infrared waves will warm your body directly instead of heating the air. The temperature shown is always not the main focus but the quality of the heat you receive.

The temperature of the infrared sauna may take a long time to reach the maximum set temperature. This depends on the ambient temperature, humidity, airflow, the frequency of opening and closing doors, etc. However, slowly reaching the maximum set temperature does not affect normal use.

As your body is close to the heaters, your apparent temperature is always higher than the temperature shown on the display. Moreover, the temperature sensor attached to the ceiling may not reflect your core temperature when you take a sauna. But don’t worry about that, the infrared heating panels will continue to heat, and the body temperature will continue to rise. The frequency of using the sauna and how long you’re staying are the more important things to consider for your health approach.

Among the infrared waves in Kylin Sauna, the far infrared rays, which have a wavelength of 6-12 microns, are especially good for the human body. These waves have the potential to penetrate 1.5 to 2 inches into the body slightly elevating your core body temperature from within.
Far Infrared is the appropriate wavelength for the purposes of a sauna. Far infrared sauna is highly absorbed, has a low reflection rate and a low transmission rate making it the best wavelength for the purposes of heating the human body for a whole body radiant heat treatment, for raising your body’s core temperature, boosting your immune system and inducing a cleansing detoxing sweat.

It’s easy to maintain your infrared sauna. To prevent excessive sweating which may cause stains on wood or get wet on the floor heater, please use one or two towels placed on the bench and on the floor heater to absorb sweat when using the sauna.

For routine cleaning, you can use a clean damp towel to wipe off the bench, floor and around the back panel after using the sauna. Do not use a towel that is too wet and can drip water inside the sauna and do not use chemical agents inside the sauna except for the nature wood cleaner.

Make sure to keep the sauna dry and clean. Do not leave towels or water glasses or bottles inside the sauna after use. Wipe the exterior surface of the sauna with a towel and clean the glass at least once a month.

To maintain the wood on your outdoor sauna, follow these general guidelines and specific steps for indoor and outdoor saunas:

In general, it is suggested to place a towel on the bench and a floor mat on the floor to protect the wood surfaces from dirt, sweat, and wear.

For indoor saunas:

We suggest that you maintain your sauna by using Paraffin Oil, which is well suited for handling sauna benches and wood paneling because the agent is non-toxic absorbs into the wood, and does not form a film that would feel hot against the skin. Paraffin oil is suitable for almost all types of wood. The oil is insoluble in water, is non-flammable, and not dangerous to health.

Before treating the sauna, the benches must be cleaned thoroughly. A neutral detergent such as Pine Soap is suitable for cleaning the benches. The benches must be completely dry before treatment so that the oil is absorbed into the wood and does not form a film on the surface.  Before applying, it is recommended to heat the product up to +40ºC. Humidity of the treated wood should not exceed 20%. Apply a thin layer of oil with a brush, sponge, or lint-free cloth. If the oil is absorbed into the wood immediately, you can apply a second layer. Please allow the benches to dry for 24 hours.

In the future, treatment with paraffin oil should be renewed about 1-2 times a year. The need for treatment depends on the utilization rate of the sauna. If the sauna is used much it needs to be treated more often. If the sauna is not used that many times in a year, one treatment can be enough.

Optionally, you can apply furniture polish on the exterior wood to help maintain its appearance and protect it from minor scratches or scuffs.

For outdoor saunas:

Regularly clean the exterior with a mild soap and water solution, and allow it to dry completely before applying any treatment. It is required to apply a coat of decking oil to the wood to protect it from the elements and prevent cracking or warping. To apply the decking oil, use a paintbrush or roller to apply a coat of the oil, working in small sections at a time. Allow it to dry completely, and then apply a second, and third coat at least 6 hours between each paintbrushing. It is essential to perform regular maintenance (once every 6 months to a year) by polishing or resealing the body as needed.  If the varnish is cracked or worn off, sand the surface and re-varnish the affected area. Consult your local handyman or furniture repair professional for more details on how to maintain the wood in an outdoor environment.

Keep in mind that your sauna is made of Canadian Hemlock Wood, which may have natural variations in color and grain, as well as knots and fine cracks. These features reflect the natural beauty of the wood and should not be considered defects. Regular wood maintenance is not included in the warranty, so it is crucial to take care of it yourself to ensure your sauna's longevity.

Common Questions

Unlike a traditional sauna, infrared saunas don’t heat the air around you. Instead, they use infrared heaters to warm your body directly. These heaters use ceramic or carbon panels instead of conventional heat to emit infrared waves to easily penetrate human tissue and heat your body instead of the air. As your body absorbs the infrared heat, this increases thermal energy, inducing a deep and relaxing sweat.

Because infrared heat waves penetrate more deeply than warmed air, you experience a more intense sweat at a lower temperature. An infrared sauna takes between 20 and 25 minutes to heat up. Since far infrared saunas heat the body directly, you can get in the sauna as soon as the heaters are up to full temperature.

On the surface, traditional steam saunas and infrared saunas appear similar.

But, while they both work to re-energise and relax the body – there are some key differences between the two. The main difference between infrared saunas and traditional saunas is how they use heat.

Traditional saunas use a single heater that heats the air and that hot air heats the user. In contrast, infrared saunas use advanced infrared heaters to warm your body directly. As your body absorbs the infrared heat, this increases thermal energy, inducing a deep and relaxing sweat. Infrared saunas usually operate between 45 to 55 degrees while traditional saunas will get up to 85 degrees or more. The infrared environment is cooler than traditional saunas, allowing you to stay in the sauna longer to enjoy the benefits.
