Installation

DIY Installation

Our indoor saunas are suitable for fully sheltered patios, pergolas, and balconies —just ensure they are protected from rain and weather exposure. For extra protection, you may also consider our sauna cover options.

For infrared saunas, they are designed for easy DIY assembly in just 45 minutes! The panels include built-in electrical elements, so no electrician is required. Additionally, no plumbing or ventilation is needed in the room. Simply connect the panels using the provided buckles and plug them into a standard 10A domestic power socket. It comes flat-packed on a pallet, consisting of one or more packages.

For traditional saunas, the Harvia heater requires a higher power supply and does not come with a plug. It must be installed by a certified electrician in accordance with your home's electrical layout. No drainage is required. A drip tray catches any excess water, and with the low humidity and minimal water use, the floor and the tray can be easily cleaned as needed.

What's the difference between a steam sauna and a traditional Finnish sauna?

They're the same core experience. Both use a heater topped with rocks to warm the room to 70°C–100°C. Steam is created by pouring water over the hot rocks, giving short bursts of humidity rather than constant moisture. Kylin's steam sauna range follows this traditional Finnish method: dry heat as the baseline, with steam added by the bather whenever they want it.

Is a steam sauna the same as a steam room?

No. A steam room, or hammam, uses a sealed, tiled space and an external steam generator to hold the room at close to 100% humidity and a lower temperature, usually under 50°C. A steam sauna uses dry heat from an electric heater and rocks, with humidity added only when water is poured over the rocks. If you want the classic, high-heat Finnish sauna feel rather than a Turkish-style steam bath, a steam sauna is the right choice.

Why is it called a "steam sauna" if the heat is dry?

The name refers to how the steam is produced, not to constant humidity. Kylin's steam saunas use a Harvia Vega electric heater, which heats a bed of rocks rather than generating continuous vapour. Pouring water over the rocks releases a short burst of steam that lifts humidity briefly before the room returns to a dry state. This is why the room needs a floor-level vent rather than the fully sealed, waterproof build a steam room requires.

What heater does Kylin use in its traditional and steam sauna range?

Every model in this collection is fitted with a Harvia Vega electric heater, in 6kW or 8 kW output depending on the sauna's size. Harvia is a Finnish manufacturer that has made sauna heaters since 1950, and the Vega heats a bed of stones that you pour water over to create steam.

What temperature and humidity should I expect?

A traditional or steam sauna typically runs at 70°C–100°C with low baseline humidity, usually 10–20%. Pouring water over the rocks raises humidity briefly before it settles back down. This is hotter and drier than a steam room, which sits under 50°C at close to 100% humidity.

Do I need an electrician to install a traditional or steam sauna?

Yes. Unlike Kylin's infrared saunas, which plug into a standard socket, traditional and steam saunas use a Harvia heater that needs a dedicated power supply and must be connected by a licensed electrician in line with your home's wiring. No plumbing or drainage is required. A drip tray collects the small amount of water used for steam, and the low humidity means it dries out quickly between uses.

How is a traditional or steam sauna different from an infrared sauna?

A traditional or steam sauna heats the room itself to a high temperature using a heater and rocks, so you feel warmth throughout the space, with steam optional. An infrared sauna instead uses panels that warm your body directly, running at a lower air temperature (around 58°C–65°C) with no steam involved. Choose traditional or steam if you want the classic, high-heat sauna ritual; choose infrared for a gentler, faster warm-up session.

Can beginners use a steam sauna, or is it too intense?

Steam saunas run hotter than infrared models, but you control the intensity yourself by how much water you pour over the rocks. Beginners can start with short 10–15 minute sessions and little or no water on the rocks, then build up to longer sessions and more steam as they get used to the heat. Most people find they develop a feel for their own ideal steam level after a few sessions, so there's no need to get it perfect straight away.
